Embracing Courage in the Workplace: The Power of Authenticity and Transformation
What does it mean to truly embody courage in the workplace?
A few days ago, I attended a networking event with industry colleagues where this question permeated the air. Showing up with courage can be challenging when navigating the complexities of professional environments. As we shared our experiences, it became evident that courage is a necessity.
But what exactly does courage in the workplace look like? Well, it looks like sharing your ideas and asserting your worth, even if it means going against what is widely accepted. It looks like trusting your abilities and speaking up for yourself and for others. It looks like pointing out flaws in a project or strategy for the benefit of the team.
Courage is also about facing reality with a brave face, understanding where you're at and figuring out where to go next. It's about sticking to your guns while still respecting different viewpoints. It's about keeping the promises you make to yourself and rolling with the punches when change comes. Courage is raw, transformative and unapologetic.
Now, you might be thinking, "Well, having courage is easier said than done," and you'd be absolutely right. Courage often demands stepping into discomfort, unsettling the status quo, and sometimes ruffling feathers. Yet, it is precisely in these moments of challenge that the transformative nature of courage emerges—it's the catalyst that empowers us to stand tall in our authenticity, regardless of the obstacles that may arise.
So, let's cultivate our courage muscles by starting small and extending patience and compassion to ourselves as we navigate this journey. And remember, ultimately it’s the collective courage of individuals that propels organizations forward, creating a culture and a world where innovation thrives and boundaries are pushed.
